I am a Marriage, Family Therapist, MFT, free-lance writer, and adoptive mom living in the San Francisco Bay Area. My husband and I adopted our son in Asuncion, Paraguay in 1992 through Bay Area Adoption Services (BAAS), an international adoption agency.
I offer private, supportive counseling to parents who have a challenging teen or young adult. My practice is in Lafayette, California. I specialize in seeing adoptive parents. I also teach parenting classes on Positive Discipline. If you would like to reach me, please contact me via email on this site.
In addition to my private practice I facilitate a peer support group for parents who have a teen or young adult in a high-risk situation. The group, called Willows in the Wind, offers support to parents who have placed their son or daughter in a residential program, or who are considering placement. Please see www.willowsinthewind.com for more information about our monthly meetings in Oakland.
Prior Work Experience:
As an undergraduate at Sonoma State, I worked at a residential treatment center for mentally ill-young adults. I helped launch the first community based residential treatment center in Sonoma County for young adults coming out of the in-patient facility and returning to the community. The organization continues to offer services today under the auspices of Community Support Network. I received an M.A. degree in Clinical Psychology in 1975 and, after graduate school, was awarded a Marriage, Family, Therapist License, (MFT). For ten years I counseled individuals, couples, families, and children. I worked as the Mental Health Consultant for Head Start of Sonoma County serving nine centers and 300 staff. I also designed and directed the first low-fee counseling center for the YWCA of Sonoma County, which has been operating for over thirty years.
